TMJ / TMD / Migraines

How is Dysport used for TMD?

TMD or Temporomandibular disorder is a disorder of the jaw muscles, TMJ or temporomandibular joint and associated nerves. TMD can result in chronic facial pain, difficulty chewing, and clicking and locking of the jaw joint. Dysport has been found to be a very effective treatment for TMD when injected into the associated muscles of the TMJ.

How is Dysport used for Migraines?

Migraines are often caused by tension in the head, neck and TMJ muscles.  Similar to TMD treatment, Dysport releases tension of the associated muscles and blocks the neurotransmitters or “pain signals” from the brain.

What to expect during treatment with Dysport

Treatment with Dysport for both TMD and Migraines is a simple in-office procedure that doesn’t require sedation and is nearly painless. The treatment area is prepped with an alcohol wipe and topical anesthetic.  Then the injection is done with a sterile vile.  The injections usually feel like a very small, light pinch.  Once treatment is completed, there may be some soreness, redness, or tenderness around the attended areas for a short period of time.
